It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
