It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and once went nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

It needed until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this innings came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself that way, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was out her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
